Sarah Walborn, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, began her training at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet under the direction of Marcia Dale Weary. In her final year, she performed the roles of “Sugar Plum Fairy,” “Dew Drop,” and “Arabian Coffee” in George Balanchine's The Nutcracker, as well as the lead role in Paquita. Ms. Walborn also attended San Francisco Ballet School's Summer Program for many years on full scholarship. In 2006, she was invited to take part in San Francisco Ballet's trainee program. The following season, Ms. Walborn was asked to be an apprentice with the San Francisco Ballet. She performed many roles with the company, including George Balanchine's Diamonds and Helgi Tomasson's The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Giselle, and The Sleeping Beauty. This is Ms. Walborn's first season with The Washington Ballet, after dancing with the Studio Company for one season. For the past two seasons, she has originated the role as one of the twins in Septime Webre's The Great Gatsby, as well as performed in Twyla Tharp's, When Push Comes to Shove; George Balanchine's Four Temperaments; Anna Marie Holmes' staging of Don Quixote and Le Corsaire; Christopher Bruce's, Rooster; and Edwaard Liang's, As Above So Below.
